Dr. Betül Kaçar is a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and leads a NASA-funded multi-institutional research center focusing on life’s early evolution. Her group pioneered innovative techniques to study the early evolution of life within a planetary context, revealing billion-year-old innovations that make our modern ecosystems possible. She received her Ph.D. in Chemistry at Emory University and completed her postdoctoral training in Evolutionary Biology and Paleobiology at Harvard University. Dr. Kaçar has partnered with the UN Women Generation Equality Campaign to support education of girls and women globally. Asteroid 284919 Kaçar, discovered by astronomers using the NASA WISE space telescope, was named in her honor.
